History
Two years before her death, Maria Luigia Duchess of Parma, Piacenza and Guastalla reopened in Parma the "Scuole Medico-Chirurgiche Veterinarie" which was inaugurated on November 21st, 1845 and is still operative, after its transformation first in "Istituto Superiore di Veterinaria", then in "Facoltà di Medicina Veterinaria dell'Università degli Studi" and finally in "Dipartimento di Scienze Medico-Veterinarie".
The veterinary teaching in Parma, for one hundred and eighty years, has always been closely connected to the University; just as ancient are the bonds to the duchy at first, then to the nation and now world-wide. The knowledge and skills that developed in it have always been original.
Currently the "Dipartimento di Scienze Medico-Veterinarie" offers a single cycle degree program in the healthcare area and a three-year degree course in the scientific area.
